Factory Records Applications

If you wish to register a Triton or other multi-make Norton machine, please contact the Records Officers first for advice.

Factory Record certificate (NOC1)

The Norton Owners Club has copies of the original Norton Factory Records which give details about each machine produced, provided these are shown on the ledger. The level of detail varies from year to year depending on model. If the original factory record is illegible or absent, there will be no charge for the service. Any data provided are for information only and could be liable to transcription error.

Please note:

NOC Factory Record certificates or information are not proof of identity or specification and may not be used for licensing purposes.

For Reassembled Original Machines (NOC2)

Where your vehicle does not have a registration number, you may apply for an age related one.  This only applies to vehicles which have been reassembled from the original vehicle. All major parts must be from the same period and at least 25 years of age to qualify. If at some time a replacement engine has been required, it is generally accepted that this is permissible or any other major singular part for that matter, other than the frame. It follows that the machine must represent a true likeness of the model specification. Please note that reproduction girder forks are not permissible.

Members £30.00 - Non-Members £60.00

Application for an age related registration.

For Bikes restored using parts from multiple sources (NOC3)

Where the motorcycle is re-built from parts from more than one machine or using parts from multiple sources, you can still apply to the DVLA for a registration. The machine will be inspected for the DVLA by NOC Inspectors. Under this scheme the major parts are dated using the built up report V627/1 NOC Clubs form .The machine should reflect a true likeness of the model description if appropriate. The registration will be based on the newest component. The DVLA will authorise a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to be stamped on the headstock for machines rebuilt from more than one major parts source.. You may, when given the new VIN, be instructed to remove the actual factory stamping in this process (not ratified at the time of writing). Do not do this without contacting the NOC Records Office in all cases.

Members £135.00 - Non-Members £165.00

Original Reg No. Application (NOC4)

Application to register a vehicle under its original registration number

The Norton Owners Club is on the DVLA List Of Vehicle Owners Clubs and recognised as being able to support Members' applications for obtaining retained or age related registration numbers for Norton motorcycles.  The Club's Records Officers will assess applications and provided everything is in order, endorse them and forward them to DVLA. The decision of the Records Officers as to whether or not an application will be endorsed is final and if rejected, the Club fee is not refundable. DVLA requires that there is an inspection of the machine and this must be arranged with the Records Officer. There will be a charge for the inspection, the amount of which you will be advised in advance of any visit. Alternatively, you may bring the machine to an appointed inspector at an agreed location.

Members £45.00 - Non-Members £75.00

961 Register

If you're lucky enough to own a Commando 961 and would like to take part in helping us to build up a database please could you forward the following preferred information to:-

961register@nortonownersclub.org

I can then add the information to the database.

  • General photo of the bike
  • Model (SE, Sport, California etc)
  • Edition number if applicable I.e 8/200
  • Engine number + photo (preferred)
  • Frame number + photo (preferred)
  • Colour

The following is purely optional, add it if you wish, the more info the merrier but no need for first pet or mothers maiden name.

  • Reg number
  • Current owners name
  • Current owners address
  • First owner if different from above if known
  • Original supplier if known
  • Interesting mods/info history

We hope to have a form that can be filled out and submitted to the records email but until this is available just sending the above in an email will suffice. To confirm the database would be only held by the NOCL and be accessed in the same way as you do for any pre Donington Nortons.

Regards

Tony Lockwood
