Hi Robert
Welcome to the WD 16H club!
You can do no better than look at www.wdnorton.nl for all you need to know about the WD16H; including the 'Maintenance Manual and Instruction Book' where all the mysteries of this great bike are explained.
Best regards

On the history of a specific WD bike, it seems it is very difficult to find anything because people was very busy making history, not saving unnecessary papers for an uncertain future. Have you checked Records on this website? A funny thing about 16H is that there is both civil and military bikes built by Norton and a lot of them civilized after the war. In a time when there was a big demand for cheap motorized transportation they became quite popular. My own 16H was handpainted red and was used with twowheeled bicycle trailer attached to the luggage rack in1952. It's owner, who was a forest worker, loaded his 20kg chainsaw and rode out in the forests to work!
Welcome and good luck
Mike

Hi Robert,
Here's a little more info for you. Originally the bike would have left the factory with matching engine and frame nos. but very few remained in this state due to continuous maintenance.
Your engine no. is from Contract V.7353 which covered engine/frame nos. W26,001 - 43,000. Mine is also from this contact as are several others here in Oz.. Production started from July 1940.
Your frame is from contact C.14498 covering engine/frame nos W78001 - 83,000 from May 1942.
C.J. Orchard and S.J. Maddern's "British Forces Motorcycles" contains a lot of this and other interesting info if you can get a copy.

Welcome. I have a WD 16H amomgst my collection. Interesting bike and still plenty of WD parts available.
The brass plunger indicates that the oil is circulating but doesn't specifically measure the pressure.
What numbers are you looking for?
