At what engine number did the early Jubilee Deluxe stop using the Wipec rear light and start using the Lucas type.

The rear light on this pic…
The rear light on this picture shows what looks like the original light. The 1958 Motor Cycle mag shows the same light on the Jubilee. I thought it was a Wipac, now not sure. The Lucas light only became standard after R17/85920, my Jubilee is before that number.
My question is does anyone know the make of light this is. Had a look on the net but cannot find one.
Thanks.
John

Hello John, Sorry I can't…
Hello John,
Sorry I can't identify the light either.
I have the Motor Cycling road test (12th March 1959) of the first production Norton Jubilee (XOH 147) and these do show a Wipac tail lamp but different shape to your lamp. I have some earlier pictures around the end of 1958 and these are a bit inconsistent as they show pre production models and there are several differences to the actual production model - different tank badges being the most noticeable.

Hi John, The early Wipac l…
Hi John,
The early Wipac light had three bulbs - two were screw in 3W bulbs and the third which I think was the brake light was a push in. All were single filament bulbs. So it is a bit unusual but I think it was used on lots of other bikes such as Bantams and Francis Barnetts at the same time.

The 1959 Maintenance Manual & Instruction Book for the Jubilee 250 says 'Stop Tail Lamp. This may be a Wipac with twin screw in.................or a Lucas which has a twin filament bulb.'
So it seems either lamp could be fitted right from day one unless someone knows better.
