I have recently acquired a Norton Model 50 1959 wideline. On taking the petrol tank of to get access to the carburettor I noticed a crease in the right side top tubing similar to the one on the attached photo. Second photo is my bike. Can I assume that this was a mod carried out to make it easier to access the cylinder head. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Thanks for your reply Barry, I must admit, when I first took the tank of and found the crease I thought I had bought a bike with a damaged frame! I have had a number of experiences of after starting to get to know a new purchase you can find all sorts of nasty surprises.

i thought the same when i first saw mine. it was covered in tank mounting rubbers, so i feared the worst. but it worked out ok.
