Feather bed wideline frame

I have recently acquired a Norton Model 50 1959 wideline.  On taking the petrol tank of to get access to the carburettor I noticed a crease in the right side top tubing similar to the one on the attached photo.  Second photo is my bike. Can I assume that this was a mod carried out to make it easier to access the cylinder head. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Thanks for reply John.  I have now found the detailed information about the frame.  I did search the site before putting my question on the forum but I just hadn't used quite the right terminology.

Thanks for your reply Barry, I must admit, when I first took the tank of and found the crease I thought I had bought a bike with a damaged frame! I have had a number of experiences of after starting to get to know a new purchase you can find all sorts of nasty surprises.
