Electra prop stand fitment

... that does explain and gives me something to look out for. I see I even contributed something to the thread myself! I was hoping for a simple fit-and-forget solution. When the stand arrives I'll check out the points made.

.. I bit the bullet and ordered both a prop and centre stand from the NOC shop. Unfortunately I'm disappointed in both and will be returning them.

The centre stand is defective in that when the lifting arm contacts the ground, the stand itself is in an almost vertical position. This would mean that any slight push from the rear would cause the stand to retract and the bike to fall over. This is clearly either a design or manufacturing fault.

With respect to the prop stand, the section that abuts the frame tube has obviously been poorly cast and an attempt has been made to repair this with weld. As this portion is crucial in maintaining the angle of the stand it’s again unusable.

In that thread (or another, my mind is going), there is mention of a spacer between the flattened frame tube and the downtube which is replaced by the Kawasaki mounting plate. My frame does not seem to have such a spacer. Is this an Electra quirk? I haven't loosened the nut so don't know whether the frame tube will spring out to give me that clearance. Otherwise I could mount the stand on the outside of the flattened portion.

... I actually think you know the bike, I bought it from Andrew Sharp a couple of weeks ago. I wonder why my bike doesn't have the spacers - I need to take the tank off and see what's at the top end. I am a bit concerned that the lower tubes have been persuaded into position, although the stud doesn't look long enough to allow for the spacers. I've got the longer stud anyway and it's easy for me to make whatever I need.

At the moment I'm just looking it over and seeing what it needs but I'm so far very pleased with what I see. Given it's been laid up for a long time it's in very nice condition but is missing the prop stand and the centre stand takes more than my ageing muscles to operate as it doesn't have the curved foot arm.
