Brake Block for Dummy Belt Rim

Forums

Does anyone know of a source (other than the VMCC shop) for the V profile brake blocks fitted to flat tank Nortons eg 1924 16H using a dummy belt rim?

Most seem to use the vmcc block material and my model 9 has this and it works ok. However you can equally carve some Poplar or ash to do the same job.
Maybe ask on one of the many Facebook forums?

What is the reason for not wanting to use the vmcc stuff?

A small number of friends have said that the VMCC brake blocks did not perform as well as the original blocks fitted to their machines. I suspect there is little or no choice of supplier for these products. After all, that was the main reason for the VMCC deciding to invest in the manufacture of obsolete braking material. The original 1924 brake block disappeared from my friend's 16H during a recent weekend event that included a lot of hills. He will probably buy a replacement from the VMCC, but I thought it was worth asking the question just in case someone knows of an alternative. Good to know that the VMCC block is working well on your Model 9.

Might be worth asking Saftek (Cleckheaton) if they can help with a suitable material for the job.

My friend made a moulding of the belt rim and sent it to Saftek together with the shoe. They said they couldn't make anything suitable for the application.
