Tail light 1957 Dommie 99

Forums

I'm a newbie to the Norton Family, have recently bought a 1957 Dominator 99.  I love the bike, but have noticed the rear light isn't working.  I've dismantled the unit and the wires at the base of the bulb holder aren't connected to anything.  Does anyone know if I can buy the wire that fit though the base.  If not do you know the light assembly part number.  It looks something close to the Lucas 525, but that seems to be for earlier Dominators. thanks

Your lamp is a Lucas 564, though the lens at least appears to be a modern replica.  There are genuine ones still around that can be bought new, but also lots of pattern parts, including those now marketed as Lucas, but of overseas manufacture. If you search, you should be able to find a proper British Lucas lamp. Assuming you want originality that is.  Or simply get one if the new ones.

.... that feeds these two lights?
The two cut off. Wires have a small round Brass washer. That, when soldered to the wire form the contact for bulb.

How did this happen? Is the cable long enough to re terminate? if by chance the fixed wiring is intact to the underside of the numberplate holder you will only need to fit a couple of 1.5mm flexible stranded cores to the washers and connect to the main loom usually with bullet connectors. Local automotive supplier or many online sources.  Can you solder? If so it's a matter of pushing the stranded wire through the hole  splay the cores evenly 360 degrees and fold over outer edge.  Solder the washer on then trim the excess strands of the back of the washer.

If not long enough you are best rewiring from a central position where you can make a secure and effective joint. But still use bullet connectors for the final connection.  You may want to change the replica fitting for an original.

if you just need 200mm of wire contact me via contact on my email and I will post what you need  to you.

Those two short wires was all that was there when I dismantled the light.  It's not obvious how that's happened.  I was looking to fix the wiring and couldn't workout how to renew the ends of the two wires in the back of the bulb holder,  but hearing it's not an original light I've opted to replace.  Thank you both for your help.
