I need to remove the knob from the shaft - do I simply unscrew it, or is it locked on? I’ve tried to unscrew it, but didn’t want to force it and risk breaking the knob.

Hi John. My damper knob is a brown Bakelite one (late 50s very early 60s) with the ‘Norton’ name on it and a sort of scalloped edge all around it. It used to be painted black but that’s all worn off now. It simply unscrews (right-hand thread). On my one there’s a locknut and metal threaded insert in the boss on the underside of the knob, so at worst the insert might pull out or loosen but it could always be Araldited back in place if it did come loose.
Hope that helps
Regards
Tony
