Bear in mind when having a petrol tank painted:
"Petrol tanks- paint your primer up to the base of any filler, but no higher. Then have the top coat and/or lacquer finish higher than that, because top coats may not be porous, but primer is and will be a path for petrol to get in and under the paintwork."
Shamelessly lifted from this month's Clasic Bike Guide*, in the article entitled Painting your bike, by Matt Hull.
*Go out and buy it any way (Jan 2024), there's a nine-page spread on the 650SS.
Reading this again, to avoid confusion should read
"Petrol tanks- paint your primer up to the base of any filler cap...."
Nothing to do with any filler that may have been applied to dings/dents etc.
