Im hoping to do some touring on my 850 this Summer when allowed out so needed some luggage panniers.
There seems to be very few options so I decided to buy some Lomo bags (a pair of 15litre and 30 litre bags). They have got some very good reviews and are cheap, I think they were around £55 to£65 for each pair. I couldnt find any suitable panniers so decided to make my own out of 316 stainless, it all seemed to work out ok with materials only being around £30 to £40, if I make a second set I think I will use 304
Has anyone made anything similar as Im thinking about making a luggage rack now and would like to see anyone elses design

Those frames look sensible, and helpfully keep the fabric bags tied down and away from the exhausts.
Perhaps neatest would be to continue your excellent welding to make a rack from the same stainless tube and then weld that to uprights onto those two side frames. Make a single rigid assembly. The rack load would then go down to the pillion rest bolts and triangulate from the suspension mounts. The mudguard stay is then only supplying sideways stability.
