I haven't found a good drawing of the tell tale. It's one of those "reassembly is the reverse of dismantling". But I have two, and they are different. The 16H one is easy to remove, but I don't intend to disturb because it doesn't leak. Although it is odd that I can see some thread below the lower hexagon. Should it be snugged down? It might be making a bid for freedom.
The other is a mystery. It only has one visible hexagon. But I thought the upper hex was the gland seal adjuster. Did the design change?
Any comments or advice please? The Inter one is not so easy to remove because the oil adjuster is just above it. I don't especially want to remove that if I don't have to.
Here's a drawing......

Thanks Michael. My 16H one…
Thanks Michael. My 16H one seems to be the one on the left. The Inter one is different. The engine is from 1932. Perhaps they changed the design to reduce leaks, since mine has only the one hexagon but of course there's no knowing what might have changed over so many years. Looks like I'll have to remove it. I rather hoped the gland might simply be tightened from the top. Perhaps I'll go for a ride instead...I just realised...the rear upper crankcase bolt contains the adjuster and I'm not certain if the tell tale can be removed without removing the entire bolt first.

Further to this. Attached is…
Further to this. Attached is a view looking almost directly down. It looks like there is quite a thick washer beneath the head of the special bolt, and that's what prevents me lifting the indicator out even after the adjuster is taken out. I wonder if this is normal? It was assembled by a very respected cammy Norton expert. I'm very reluctant to remove a single crankcase bolt just to reduce a single small leak. Any comments?

That washer....
...is actually integral to the nut and should have a fiber washer beneath it. I had no problem removing the nut from the drive side and then tapping the stud out to the right. Then I could remove the telltale.

Inter crankcase top rear bolt
Further to this. It seems the thin locknut is missing, so I need to extract it.
However, the top rear crankcase stud needs to come out first. Both nuts are slack, but it won't move in either direction! Any ideas? Is it just gummed up? I don't want to use a big hammer, especially if it only comes out one way. I can't see any kind of peg holding it there.

Mine drifted out easily...
but then it was recently assembled. Yours is probably petrified in there with many years of gunk. Comes out to the timing side with judicious application of a soft mallet.....and maybe some mild heat.

Thanks again Michael. I'll…
Thanks again Michael. I'll try to remember to have another go after I've come back from a run and it's properly hot.

And it is a pain to remove on an Inter. I dismantled mine to clean it and soaked the felt in oil before replacing it. Snug up the glandscrew and lock. Also replaced the clip at the bottom with a modern circlip.
