Fuel tank capacity of P53 Commander

Forums

Hello,
.           does anybody know the capacity of the fuel tank of the original version of the Commander (with integral panniers).

I'm selling mine to somebody who lives in The Netherlands and he's considering riding is home.

According to Norton's glossy brochure for the original Commander, it says 23 litres

Your buyer would perhaps be surprised that full to empty (fuel gauge) on the P53 is 140 miles. And that he has to take the right hand fairing panel off to get to reserve.
In my example a large part of the 23 litres is unavailable. Probably in the left of the tank where there is no tap or bridge pipe.

Riding in company with others I know this is the norm.

Thanks Mark, that's a bit more than I would have guessed, but I suppose that I have never filled it completely.
My guess  would have been between 4 and 4.5 galls. but 23 litres is just over 5 galls.
I have a partial workshop manual but the bits I have don't mention fuel capacity.
Thanks for taking the trouble.

Hello Peter, thanks for replying.

The furthest that I've travelled between fill-up's is 180 miles and the most Petrol that I've put in the tank at one go is 20 litres, and that's not using the reserve. Over the 12 years that I've owned the bike it has averaged 48 mpg.
