electonic ignition

Forums

Hi members, I have a 69 650 ss mercury.  I have a Boyer Bransden micro mk 3, will this be compatible, or would a Trispark be more suited, any information would  be appreciated.

Only thing to watch out for with the Boyer Bransden Micro MKIII is the fact it needs a good, strong 12 volts.

If your battery dips under, you’ll have starting issues, and nasty kickbacks.

Other than that, you’re good to go!

I would like to use a Tri-Spark for my 650ss but they seem to be for the Atlas and later. If you’ve managed to use one then I’ll be interested to hear how you got on.

Yes, I used a Tri-Spark on a 650ss while I found a magneto and had it rebuilt.

I liked it so much, it stayed on the bike!

Tri-Spark

It made for a bike that was a piece of cake to kickstart, with zero chance of kickbacks and a superb idle.

Very happy!

Hi , does any member have a wiring diagram for fitting electronic ignition to a jubilee 1963 model , I'm starting to do mine this weekend as part of my renovation, I've nearly completed the 12 volt conversion , regards Dave

As soon as you go electronic ignition (and 12V) on the lightweights you need 2X6V coils. The bike comes with these if you had the original 6V coils. The WIPAC coils have a 90deg HT outlet for under the tank, works wonderfully. (Lucas coils have a straight outlet-awkward) The Wipac coils last forever. Details of this are on A O Services.co.uk.
