Oil seal definite answer.
The definitive answer is :YES. There is a conventional rubber/steel backed oil seal fitted to the drive side crankcase.
The problem is the crankcase needs to be removed to replace the oil seal as it's fitted from inside the drive side crankcase. Not the most convenient of designs.
The seal is listed, but not illustrated, in the Spare Parts List for 1959 Models 88, 99, ES2 and 50. It is Publication PS 206.
The part number is 22474 and is listed just above the Connecting rod details as shown in the attached photo.
I had trouble sourcing one here in Oz for my 1961 ES2 but can give you the dimensions as I have a spare.

I was coming to the conclusion that the crankcases need to be split, so that is a job for next week.
