Dave Coates

He has been a regular stall holder at Kempton bike jumble for many years. I bought a Commando in bits from him in 2002 and rebuilt it. He has been a long-time trader in second hand mainly Norton bikes and parts. He specialises in Norton AMC gearbox rebuilds from his base near Newbury, Berkshire, UK.

He does a lot of gearboxes and clutches for the scrambles boys too, usually at Mortimer Scrambles near Theale. He knows his stuff. 

Dave Coates is one of those people who seems to exist under the radar but who is a legend and a complete expert regarding Norton motorcycles and particularly gearboxes.  If you are fortunate enough to acquire a gearbox that he has built then you know that it will work faultlessly and give years of trouble-free service.
