Whereabouts are you in the country?and tell us more of the history of the bike. This is a big step if you say you have no natural ability. Is that no NA to ride a bike or no NA with spanners and the like? Probably the best idea is to find out where the local NOC branch meets and go and introduce yourself, there usually is someone there who can help point you in the right direction.
The singles compendium in the library section is a good start. in the hunt for information.

The bike has a file with it and good history  one of the previous owners  used it as as a funeral side car .the original engine is in a museum  and  it has been looked after  well ,  i just need sign posting to appropriate resources  . would love to get it running  properly  as it looks sad just siting there  . i have taken it up and down the road  a few times and it rides really well . i think its more of a know-lage skills thing  . i don't think its a big step i just need to learn new skills , Norton  cub do they do  skill sharing  days ? if ia can work out how to do  it i wil  post photos
of the file and the bike

... one of the club section meets then it would be well worth popping along and having a chat. The Model 18 is a pretty simple bike but is very different to modern machinery.

You say it rides well but does not run as it should.  How do you know? Is up up to temperature, fresh fuel, good lubrication?? I would get a person familiar with this type of machine to evaluate.

Take the advice and act upon it, documentation is abundant on line for single cylinder Nortons'.  They are a simple 4 stroke engine, and the model 50 is a straightforward machine layout. Sidecars can incur other issues but unless you know what is the right feeling then get the judgement of one who knows.  Your location would be helpful.

interesting history! Ian sold a lot of his bikes to the new Norton Company at Solihull for their 'museum'.
