Can I use the VE 16/1 to gain the original registration

I am looking to register a Norton Model 99 Deluxe manufactured late 1959 it has a Northamptonshire registration of URP 703. URP was issued around the end of 1959/early 1960.

Having contacted Northants archives they have emailed me a copy of the vehicle licensing records showing the above registration attached to a Norton. The VE 16/1 shows a Norton registered URP 703 was transferred to Hunts and Peterborough CC 1st December 1967.

Can I use the VE 16/1 to gain the original registration.

Hello Brian - I recently went through this process to regiister a 650SS. Withtout any paperwork I traced the original registration through the Club and tied it all in with the bike's delivery to the dealer, Because I could not tie the frame number specifically to the registration number, even though the rear plate was still on the bike, I had to have an age-related number which is a bumber....Good luck.

Hi all
The DVLA are very strict on this. The supporting evidence MUST have both the original registration number AND the frame number on the SAME document.

That is Original Green or Buff log book, an insurance certificate, original bill of sale or county registration record.

Adding to Paul's posting above.
If you are importing and registering a bike there is even more paperwork needed.
This includes a NOVA certificate and 'proof of build' date.
The latter is almost impossible to find in the NOC Records.
Possibly a chat with Andover Norton or the NMM or VMCC Records People.

I am restoring a bike (not a Norton) and have the original plates and a 1960 tax disc, but no log-book.  The original registration was 1950 in Surrey, but no records survive in that area.  I am not expecting to be able to revive the registration.  But - the bike came to me from the North Islington, London area - could there be registration data from 1960 ? How do I find out?
