Would someone please confirm the correct fitment regarding the rotor and alternator for the above model. The numbers I have are; 468678/47119A960 for the alternator, 2 wires and 466177/423506 for the rotor, many thanks David

Probably not worth chasing…
Probably not worth chasing old orriginal parts now, Replacements are availiable ,just be aware that quality is not always better than the prince of darkness managed and that cable outlets , mounting holes and general sizes may vary. Buy from a trusted source where refund is possible. .

David-some facts.
The original alternator was RM15. This had three wires (NOT 3 phase) and was meant for 6V (but can easily give 12V) and had a 70mm rotor -stator hole to match. they are often 'tired' by now but if they work then carry on. From the late 60s Lucas went over to a 74mm rotor (stator to match). Any two wire Stator's will be meant for 12V (but can give 6V using the'modern' regulator/rectifier). The later 74mm units will fit. but there might be an issue with the studs ie large/small. Do NOT try fitting the larger hole stators on the small studs! If it ever moves then the plot will seize, very expensive and if your 'lucky' the bike will seize and you go down the road on your 'elbow'. Correct size studs or sleeving would be the answer. 8thou gap rotor/stator min. Please be aware the these numbers were correct in the 1960s and are tottaly academic now. For 6V using original switched alternator output you will need RM19. RM21 is 2 wires and is intended for 12V.
