The side tank badges on my Atlas have severe pitting on them. They clean up and the chrome does attempt to shine through but that pitting aint going away.
I've heard they're made of a type of pot metal that doesn't take chroming well.
Has anyone on here had any success with rechroming these. Alternatively, are there pattern replicas available anywhere?

Reverse Contrast
My 650 Tank badges were in poor condition and did not do my repainted tank any favours whatsoever. So as you can see from a little change in colours the end result was fine.
30 Years ago I made a set of slimline badges using fibreglass. Trying to get a shiny Chrome paint finish was too difficult as every single part needed sanding and sealing several times. I wonder if modern paints would do a better job these days?

Try vinyl wrap. Wrinkles can be avoided with gentle heat and stretching. Photos don't do it justice.

Mine had a speckling of pits…
Mine had a speckling of pits all over. The problem you, or more likely a plater will find is that though the holes in the chrome may be fairly small and appear shallow, when the chrome is removed, the pit will be much larger where it has eaten away at the cheap alloy base material under the chrome.
I took mine to S&T Plating in Yate, near Bristol, who applied two thick coats of copper, polishing back between coats to fill the pits before final copper, nickel and chrome. The badges have not lost their crisp edges around the lettering and look pretty good. Not cheap, but there are not really any viable alternative options if you want a chrome finish as original.

I bought a pair from Donald…
I bought a pair from Donald Pender back in April. The quality and fit (on my tank, anyway) was perfect. Unfortunately, when they arrived, one of them was damaged. The tip had taken a knock somehow and had cracked. I emailed Donald with a photo of the damage. A replacement arrived a week later, better packed and free of charge.

Thats called patina !, I think they are perfect. A bit of chrome polish then a good wax is all they need. The pits are a problem and have to be sanded out which is likely to change the profile and they are brittle to handle or bend out of shape .Can be done but not worth the gamble to me. There has been some heavy brass reproductions made in the states. Bike looks good too.Love it as it is.
