Commando in bits, what is it and how much?

Forums

Hi,
I have been contacted by a lady who has inherited a 1972 (Norvil ?) Commando. It is believed to have been imported from the USA in 1996. There is a suggestion that it has some racing history.
It is in bits and has had a certain amount of work done on it.
She would like to have a very rough idea of what it might be worth in its current state and also what it might be worth if all back together.
I know this very much depends on what has been done and what still needs to be done. But any guidance would be welcome.
First 4 pictures of the large bits attached, boxes of small bits do exist.

The frame is early, one of the 'ones that broke' and has been seriously messed about - so scrap. The swinging arm is a Metmachex alloy affair but limited appeal; would devalue a standard bike. Engine looks shiny but it depends what's inside. Ditto gearbox. PR body kit looks too shiny to have been raced but perhaps it was repainted. Wheels are standard with 18" Akront flanged rims, so worth a couple of hundred if they're straight.

At this distance it's a basket case. It'll cost a lot to put together unless you have a spare frame & swinging arm to hand. You have no idea what's inside that engine. Fuel tank is GRP so no use on the road, fairing is non standard. And you don't know whether it's complete.

I'd break it for spares and flog any decent bits off individually. If the grieving widow wants it gone then list as 'spares or repairs' and see what you're bid.
