Wellll , finally got the bike, a nice NORTON Dominator 88,cafe racer. According to the frame number a 1958 wideline, Engine number a 1959 engine, both according to Roy Bacon manual. Was wondering if any of forum have any idea if engine internals i.e. pistons, rings, rebore,or is it a standard 500 engine. REG NO 229 YUT. Many thanks in your time in this matter. Looking forward to getting out on it while the summer is still here.

Welcome!

You will find much helpful advice on this forum, but have a good look through the 'Technical' and 'History' pages on the website too. You will find a mass of useful information there.

Where in the world are you? Local section meet ups are a great source for finding out about local companies who are 'safe' to use ('safe' as in having knowledge/experience of working on British bikes) and also will have lots of personal experience with Nortons. Hopefully there is a meeting not too far from you.

Make it safe to use and ride it - that way you will get a better idea as to what needs doing sooner!

Regards,

George

Dominator Service Notes are now available!  See this site.

Highly recommended background reading is Bacon's "Norton Twins Restoration".  Available from Andover Norton.

Haynes still publish their "Norton 500, 600, 650 and 750 twins" manual.  It's not perfect (watch out for torque settings for crank).

Your engine and frame numbers will give information about what your bike was , but  as to what it now is, only a stripdown will reveal that.
