850 Commando sidecar

Forums

Hi!

Just found that my 1973 850 Commando previously had a sidecar attached. Anyone with sidecar knowledge, know if any suspension parts may have been upgraded/changed? My nearside passenger footrest and brackets are missing or fitted incorrectly.

Thanks,

Krzysztof

... that fitting a chair was not recommended and given the way the isolastics seperate the frame from the engine / transmission / back wheel I'm not surprised.

Yes, it was deemed important to highlight this at the very start of the Rider’s Manual.

It even warranted the use of capital letters!

From my failing memory I'm sure there there is a photo in one of the early Road Holders of a Commando fitted with a lightweight sidecar chassis carrying a firehose.

I wouldn't recommend a chair myself.

I should have thought that the invention of the Jeep definitively put paid to the usefulness of sidecar outfits for this kind of application.

Hi All!

Many thanks for your comments!

I spoke to Andover Norton regarding this and will re-assemble rear end hoping that all is still square!
