Today I took my original Atlas deep valanced rear mudguard to the local platers (in Yate) for a quote to get it rechromed. Condition on is solid, but the chrome is tired - general light pitting over most of the top surface, though sides are not bad. I was advised that a heavy copper coat would likely be applied to reduce material removal and make polishing easier.
the quote - £275 plus VAT!! The last large item I had chromed (at the same platers) was the front mudguard a few years ago and that cost £80. Do you think the quote is likely to be typical of present plating charges pricing or high?
Andy
Chrome
Welcome to the new normal. Earlier this year, my local plater said that his electricity bill (his major cost) had doubled from one month to the next. I would imagine that it has gone up significantly since then. Businesses are not subject to an electricity price cap as domestic customers are. Someone I know has been quoted over a thousand pounds for re-chroming a car bumper. Looks like oily rag bikes are the way to go!

Chrome rear mudguard
I recently got a quote from " Chromefix " of Balsall Heath , Birmingham . I have the large heavy slightly rusty rear mudguard to be chromed for my 650ss .
The quote for the full service was £ 160 + postage if needed .
Sam at the company has loads of great reviews and certainly seems to be known as a " Can do " and helpful sort of bloke .
I am not ready to use them quite yet but will certainly giving them a try at a later date .

Chrome plate
My local chrome plating man, chrome plated my two Norton petrol tank badges, as well as some other parts, a few months back, and that was £80, for all of it.

Chromefix..
... I've used them several times and their prices and quality have always been excellent. However, on the last occasion a couple of years ago prices had gone up significantly, and as said they will only go higher.

Sounds about right to me, S and T did some Norton slimline tank badges five years ago cost was just over £200, I have used Quality Chrome in Hull for a few years now and the last job was for my Sq 4 cost was £400 incl vat for seven parts, the quality of the work was very good.
Kind regards Colin
