Primary case...another experiment

I am cautiously optimistic. The bike in question has a particularly unreliable oil bath.  This stuff is polyethylene, so pretty much totally resistant to oil etc.  Looks promising so far. Comes in different diameters.  They sell through Amazon in 10m lengths at under £5 a length. I am trying 10mm and 15mm diameters.

That’s exactly what I used 12mm, cut 10mm from band and glued this to front edge and not leaked a drop, have shared this before

Sorry Peter...must have missed your post. It's encouraging. Especially as on this bike the chaincase fit is not as good as it should be.

Hi David. Is that polyethylene you’re using a tube or solid? I had a look on Amazon and I can only find polyethylene tube (used for greenhouse  irrigation systems). Is that what you’re using?

Thanks

If you click the link in my post, it should come up. It is 'solid' flexible foam. Similar to the perhaps more familiar pipe insulation, but a bit softer.  Polyethylene should be pretty inert.  The drawback so far is the pale grey colour. The outer case in the singles usually has a cut back close to the magneto, where the band is visible.

I don't know why they call it 'rod'! It's soft and floppy.

The bike it is on has a slightly compromised chain case which seems to have a bigger gap at the bottom than at the top.  I think hhe footpeg is slightly lower than on the model the outer case was designed for.  So, along the top run, I cut my 15mm strip in half with scissors.  I don't know the best size..I have 10mm and 15mm.
