In the past, I have found that buying control cables that are ready made results in huge variability, so I'm hoping to make them this time.
Does anyone know if Norton published figures for outer and inner cable lengths for the following:
A2/262 Throttle cable
A2/259 Choke cable
A2/256 Magneto cable
A2/271 Decompressor cable
B2/268 Front brake cable
D12/268 Front brake cable
A2/265 Clutch cable
D12/265 Clutch cable
I am dealing with all standard parts on the bikes - no mods.
Thanks very much!

I always...
... take the measurements from the bike itself. Start with a too-long outer and fit one end ferrule. Then route the cable exactly where I want it and cut the outer to length and fit the other ferrule. Then fit one nipple (usually the non-handlebar end) to an again too-long inner, fit the whole assembly to the bike with all adjusters at mid-point and mark up the lever nipple end allowing 1/4" for splaying out.
That usually results in a good cable with a clean run. I accept it's a bit more work than using someone else's measurements but I hate untidy cables.

Thanks, Ian. That's what…
Thanks, Ian. That's what my Norton knowledgeable mate said ! I agree about untidy cables, which is why I'd like to get it right.

Ferrule crimping
Ian. What do you use for ferrule crimping? Is there a specific tool or can you adapt something? I have glued them in the past but would prefer a mechanical finish.
cheers

I took..
.. a long 1/4" BSF nut and turned 2 internal diameters - one for each size of cable I use - then sawed it in half lengthways and use it as a clamp to squeeze the ferrules. I have to say however that with shiny cable outers it doesn't always work as well as it might and I've resorted to a drop of superglue to help.

This information is availiable on one of the cable makers sites. Can't remember which! .I had to get a new inner cable made up for my 99/chrono which was a bit longer than std and I already had a proper armoured outer I wanted to keep.
