For those who haven't discovered it already - here's a link to Bright Spark Magnetos, who have many very useful Lucas Manuals and lists. Not just magnetos but many other Lucas Workshop Instructions in their "LIBRARY" tab. They do numerous services and parts too.
Interesting to see that the best output from a Lucas RM15 Alternator is no more than 10 Amps at 5000 rpm (whether in 6 or 12 volt systems)
The old PUZ7E 6 Volt batteries are 12Ah at the 10 Amp rate and 14Ah at the 20 hour rate. That sounds better than most modern equivalent lead-acid batteries.

No "genuine" Lucas anymore
According to a well-known electrickery expert of this Parish, the Lucas we now know are but a shadow of their former self. New equipment not reaching the standards of the 1940s to 1960s.

Not setting a very high bar there Lionel! Although to be fair to them, the only problems I had were with melting stators, and the true root of that would have been mechanical failures, so unreasonable to lay the blame at Uncle Joe's feet.. Air gap (or rather my lack of) and all that.....
Never had a dynamo& CVC, and the magnetos I had performed well enough. Made my eyes water having to pay a whole seven quid for a new cam-ring tho...in 1970.....As the parts guy down in the basement at Kays of Ealing (Mr Oz will remember them I suspect!) said to me, youre not paying for whats left behind, but what they had to take out....

I think...
... any similarity between modern Lucas and Great Hampton Street stuff is only the name on the packaging. A bit like the modern "AJS"s.

Wow yes, what a fantastic website. Loads of goodies on there. I shall add it to my Favourites and have a mammoth download session later. Cheers Lionel!
Ah Lucas, the Prince of Darkness! When they were still a major business, I went to their head offices in Birmingham for a full day of interviews. There was a full Trade Counter service at the front of the site, and just up the road was a big prison. Chatting to one of the staff, he told me one time a chap burst through the front door, leapt over the counter and ran through the back, only to be followed minutes later by a posse of coppers! Cant recall if they "got their man"- and no I didnt get the job.
