Hi,
My parts manual indicates my 54 ES2 should have a 31281B brake light switch. I seem to get a lot of 31281 (no B) switches in searches that fit Landrovers etc. Can anybody tell me the difference between the B and No B switches? I know some very similar Lucas switches on BSAs etc were normally on, whereas mine should be normally off. Hoping someone can enlighten me.
Cheers
Chris
Thank you Nick, great info. …
Thank you Nick, great info.
Saved for my files.
Mines a late 53 product so potentially I could use either. I could be accused of overthinking it but may as well have the correct type as the wrong one.
Cheers

You maybe interested along with other members in other Lucas parts lists and manuals and they can be downloaded from the BrightSpark website at:

Brake switches are a problem…
Brake switches are a problem. The later Dommie has a 'normal on' switch, so when the pedal is pushed the arm on the switch is released and goes forward to the left. This allows the contacts to close. The one I bought was the opposite and I couldn't reverse it. And sellers can't answer the question when asked which way it goes. There are four ways round...good luck!

Hi Chris.
This Lucas switch catalogue does not seem to show any difference. The picture shows it as 31281 but the list shows the switch as 31281B. So I don't think there is any difference.
Although it does list the 31281 switch up to 1953 and a different switch, 031445, for a 54 ES2. With 1953 seemingly a change over year.
