I managed a sortie in the back of an F15 air combat against 2 Mirage 2000 back in 1985 pulled 6.5 g just getting off the ground and popped through the sound barrier. The memory will stay with me for life. It's amazing how heavy your head is at those levels of g. I didn't chuck up either.

I might beinterested Kev. I'll keep my eye on this thread to see if you get any others interested too. Looking at the web site it doesn't mention that they're going to do any taxi runs or starting engines. Do you know for sure what'll happen on the night?

As far as I'm aware Alan, the whole idea of doing it in the evening is to start one up so that photos can be taken of a flaming backside as it accelerates down the runway. Thats the Lightning's backsidenot mine you understand. I might be wrong soI'll give them a call just to check it out and get back to you.

Just to cheer you up Kev, doing the inverted bit of an air test, as well as the usual cloud of dust which gets up inside your visor just to see how you cope with temporary blindness, one time a spanner lept out of the murky depths and landed on top on the canopy. Took a fair bit of wobbly upside-down flying to catch the b***** too...

We'll get locked down for going off topic Gordon, but spanners are like that. Just when you think you've got one under control it leaps out of your hand and disappears intothe dark void. They can only then be found when they want to be found. You're lucky it didn't fall into your box of sandwiches or your flask.Concentrating on flying upside down, you wouldn't have noticed until you'd bit in to it. Tasty! Was it metric?

I have been told that the plan for theNight Shootis to engage afterburners and head off down the runway once it gets reasonably darkish. It should make for some interesting photos and probably fingersin the ears.
