Hi I'm new to this site so hope I've posted in the right area.... I need some help, Iecentely found an old picture of a man and his bike... I know who the man is (my dad) - but struggling to correctely indentify the bike.. any help would be very much appreciatted Rgds B

Hi Brian,
DVLA shows nothing against a Norton for MNL 844, I'm afraid, which was registered by Northumberland County Council between June and September 1957, the combination of AMC gearbox and what looks like a Dynamo would aree with 1957. Perhaps it was 'new' to your Dad in 1960/61?.

Gentlemen, many many thanks for your rapid, informative and kind comments... got a 48 year old (wee boy) on a mission now... I want one...
Northumbeland would be right area, 57 could well be new to him too... i've told my old mum to go easy on the gin... looks like 9 fins and good gen on the gearbox and dynamo...
his other bike before this one was also a Norton (500 ss on a garden gate?? frame) - got a great pic of that one too if anyone wants me to post it..

I would say that it's a late '50s 99. If you can count the number of fins on the barrel, it's 8 for an 88 and 9 for a 99. Couldn't make it out clearly but my guess is 9 fins. A splendid picture! It is pre 1960 as the frame was changed from a wideline (as in the picture) to a slimline for that model year. So it's probably a 1959 bike. Hope that helps.
