Hi, Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a Model 50 which has had a 12v negative earth conversion? Stupidly I did not take enough photos or notes when I took mine apart and there seem to be a couple of possibilities as to where a few of the wires go. Thanks

Hi, The bike has a 12v bat…
Hi, The bike has a 12v battery YB9-B, a Lucas alternator which is stamped466177 and a Zener diode. To be honest I cannot remember whether it was negative or positive earth, the wire from the centre of the rectifier goes to the Zener which is bolted to the frame. I think I will probably be alright sorting out the lights but I am worried that if I get something wrong on the ignition/charging side I may cause some damage. 18 months ago I started what was supposed to be a quick rebuild but other bikes, work and family commitments have got in the way and to be honest I just want to get the bike back together now.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers

hi
page 63 is probably what you have
www.inoanorton.com/Articles/1968_AllModelsManual.pdfhave a look at the markings of the rectifier as this will determine if it is positive or negative earth.regardsBob

Hi, Tanks for that the diagram is the same as the one I have got but I know in an earlier thread Al Osborne said that you can connect two of the wires from the alternator together which is how I think mine was wired earlier, but what happens to the wire that is now redundant. The only marking on my rectifier is the word stud but the middle of the three connectors goes to the zener diode,
Thanks

Hi,.
Page 80 of that document is the one you should be looking at for the charging circuit
If you have connected two of the three wires together, what is redundant ?
You should now have effectively two wires coming off the alternator. One goes to each of the outer connections on the rectifier.
The stud of the rectifier is ground and should be positive.
The central connector on the rectifier is theoutput and this also goes to the the zener.
There should be markings on the zener that look the same as on the circuit diagram.

Hi What you have from your…
Hi
What you have from your description is 12v positive earth as this is how moast three tag rectifers and zener diodes are.
look at al Osborne article as to which two wires on the alternator to join together.
On this web site go to Technical->Electrical->6v to 12v
or if still in difficulity you can now buy a complete regulator (podtronics or al Osborne ) kit that you just connect to the altenator and battery and this can be + or - earth as its isolated from the frame...
and you don't then need the zener diode or the rectifer

hi
model 50 wireing is fairly simple.
which wires are you having problems with. any conversion has its problems as if we don't know what you have help is difficult.
is it standard with a flashed dynamo to reverse polararity or a electronic regulator
let us know and we may be able to help
