Translucent Positive

Hello,

I have had a good read through the messages looking for a solution to this one but have had no luck (picked up a few other gems mind).

I am trying to source the parts to make my own wiring loom for a does any one know where to get translucent cable from, the type used on Navigator as Positive, also, there is reference to a resistor wire Navigator, any know where to source that little. Trying hard to keep to plan as current bike has green silicone type wire for positive...

If you are switching to 12v I don't think you need the resistor wire, and you don't connect the generator to thenswitches (orange wire as I recall) that needs to be disconnected and made safe.

The only one I could not get was translucent - clear.

I have been using "Norton Motorcycles" by P.L. Jarret plus the additional info given on these pages. I am a very new owner - 3 days and have yet to lift the old harness, so getting things lined up and trying to educate myself ahead of time.

by Les will be the final link, though now I am thinking I will convert to 12v and upgrade to Electronic ignition to avoid so many running issues and the resistance wire issue.

I bought a new 12v rectifier-regulator from 'Lamberts Bikes' in the UK for £13.95 incl P&P (via eBay) - it's designed to accept a four-pin plug (two x AC in and +and - dc out) but I wired it easily with four x separate 6mm spade plugs. Fitted to my 920 Mk.2A Commando - works well.

Scroll down and you will find a wiring diagram with powerbox and electronic Boyer ignition.

If you leave out the electric starter circuit you hav a fine diagram for your Navigator.

I will use it also for my wiring loom.

Hi Ulrich,

to keep things as original as I can, I even considered using clear speaker cable - not discounted yet but seems wrong somehow. Thanks for your link, I will give it a good going over. A rewire takes you very quickly to a 12V upgrade, the transition from 6 to 12v is heavily wrapped up with electronic ignition upgrade. Seems to be a real money pit - all of items less than £1, but the bill is always about £40 for each element - world of classic bikes I guess.

Well, mine was already converted to 12 volt and a Boyer ignition but as mentioned it was wired with only two colours for everything. In the parts pile was a Lucas two phase stator from a Commando an a Wipac rotor.

Unfortunatly the wires are broken on the stator. I also have a 6volt Wipac stator and will connect the light green and orange wires to get 12 volts out of it ( hopefully..)

A new club wiring loom costs also about 40 pounds and many wires will be obsolete when using the new electronic rectifier/regulator and electronic ignition.

I have leftover wires from my Commando restoration and about 20 metres of red and blue wire from the previous owner of the bike. I will use the colours of the Commando harness for the headlamp wiring.

Thanks Al,I am much happier to replace the transparent with red and will run with the lights on until ready to 12V and EI. Thanks for input.Andrew
