Hello,Just want to introduce myself. I am a lifelong fan of Norton motorcycles. At age 14, in 1968, Norton was the coolest thing going. I would ride my Suzuki 50 then, pretending it was a Norton 750 Commando. I am know 60 years old, and I have owned lots of motorcycles, including Hondas, Yamahas and eventually Harleys. For my 60th birthday I bought me a present -- one I had waited 46 years for. I bought a Norton Commando. It is a 1974 Norton 850 Commando, and it runs like a Champ. Starts on the second or third kick. Pulls great. I have taken it only to 90 mph. I am getting old, and 90 mph does as much for me now as 120 mph did in my twenties and thirties. Always loved Norton, and now I am a proud owner/caretaker of a true Norton treasure.

Hi Robert
Congratulations on getting the bike of your dreams. Commandos have some weaknesses and idiosyncracies, but overall the are great bikes. Easy to fix or modify, great fun to ride, and a good bike to use in the modern world.
The NOC is a good club with plenty of accumalated knowledge, services, rallies a lively forum and with some real charecters.
Welcome aboard

I work in San Francisco and live in nearby Orinda, California. Getting old is relative, I know. I feel younger than I look.

Robert:
Living in Orinda and working in San Francisco you really need to join the Northern California Branch. We have meetings once a month somewhere in the Bay area and then have a ride on the Sunday following. My info is in the back of the Roadholder but you can email me directly at mikemill20@aol.com.

Thanks for telling me about it. Ashland is beautiful.
Farthest I have taken her out so far is 200 miles in a single trip (a very nice Napa - Sonoma loop with some meandering). She did great, but I was sore for two days. Too tense, couldn't get relaxed. Felt it in my neck, shoulders, arms and hands. But, I am getting better at relaxing, now.
May want to trailer her there, if I can make it.

Hi Robert,
Welcome to the club, where in the world are you based ? I am not sure what you mean about getting old, you are only a year older than me and I keep telling my wife I am approaching middle age !
I am sure you will not have any problems but if you do, this is a good place to start asking questions.
Ride and enjoy.
Regards
Tony
