Having just completed my rebuild and covered around 500 miles I decided I should bite the bullet and add up all my receipts.(ouch!). I thought members might be interested and have analysed the figures into broad areas. I bought the Dommie in April last year intending to just get it back on the road but after discovering the frame was bent embarked on a full restoration completed last month. The bike had been in storage for 30 years and was very original, the big ends were on standard shells and the Hepolite pistons also on standard bore. I have tried to retain as much of the original machine as possible but new ticket items include new seat, exhaust system, new s/s rims and spokes, tyres, wheel spindles, s/s fastenings and a rebuilt magneto to convert from coil ignition.
Frame inc wheels and suspension £1199
Cycle parts inc tank repairs, seat £978
Painting inc chroming, plating & polishing £580
Engine inc g/box and exhaust £1643
Electrical inc magneto £553
Total £4953
Unreceipted parts bought at bike jumbles not included.
I am not an engineer or even a mechanic if it comes to that so work of that nature has been farmed out but I have undertaken all the reassembly, fitting and fettling.
Final comment; I enjoyed doing the project and I am pleased with the outcome but I would never do it again!

Thanks Barry, so yours will be a wideline.
I think posting photo's and links are a job for the webmaster. A long standing issue, bit like Norton 50's singles spares!
I look fwd to seeing your finished bike.

Hi Neil, can you confirm that link, can't make it work.
Yes it's a Wideline. Had to have my rear mudguard re built it was rusted out and nearly a goner, same with tank after blasting it was like a piece of old lace.

Tell you what Barry, just go to a decent search engine such as yahoo or Dog Pile and type in Neil's Norton Notes and that should do it. This site doesn't like posting links, I had to type that one in by hand. For what good it did...
Google tends to give the search results it wants you to have rather than your preference at the top!!!!

What year is the bike, Barry and do you have a picture?
My 1960 99 was finished early last year, I dare not count the cost but I also had to buy both mudguards, chain guard, number plate / tail light holder and a five year search for a headlamp shell. Like you, bore is still standard and original mains not worn.
Matching numbers despite the missing tinware.
