Fuel proof paint......

Forums

Hey

Can anyone recommend an unleaded-fuel proof paint?

I had my commando tank painted about 6 months ago. I noticed that some of the paint and lacquer has been pickling around the fuel cap. So Iâve removed the fuel cap and scraped away the old paint and lacquer. The plan is to put some fuel proof paint around the cap area, perhaps a hammerite or a primer? When the fuel cap is replaced it will cover the area that Iâm re-painting.

Cheers

Hello ,Ben. Well I am looking for some myself .But I have not come across any yet, But I will let all members know when , I do, Hammerite will not do the job as its Oil based paint ,And the Ethanol in the fuel will take it off easly ,every tank I have seen as the same problem , even new cars get the paint coming away round the filler cap over time, , Your Anna J Dixon

Greetings from a nice warm South Australia,

I see its going to hit a massive 6 degrees in London, only going to be 30 deg C here today, 36 tomorrow, ohhh sorry 'orf topic.....

You can use POR-15 US fuel tank liner as a 'local paint' inand around fuel filler caps.

However surface preparation is extremely important andunless you were going to line the tank as well, prohibitively expensive BUT it is Ethanol compliant.

See:

Good luck!
