Sorry to sound ignorant but I have just bought my first Norton (only ever had Triumphs till now) This commando mk3 is fitted with a fiberglass tank and all I seem to see are fibreglass ones except ones from India.
What were these bikes originally fitted with, Steel or fiberglass?

Hi Everyone,talking about mk111 ,i had a look at a mk111 for sale .
It had a metal tank but had no lip around the steering yoke area ,just looked like it had been removed or it was never there .
Any ideas Thanks Steve

My Mk 3 tank has no lip around yoke area and I know it's the original tank. Never seen a lip on any steelCommando tank around the steering yoke area come to that.

Ron,
By the time the Mk.lll came along, all tanks were steel. Fibreglass ones could not be fitted by law after sometime in 1973.
