Electra; clutch centre spring retaining studs

Forums

The threads on the three studs on my clutch are slightly mangled. The studs are 1/4 x 26 tpi. They are either cycle thread or BSF, ie very similar but the question is which thread ?

I am going to run a die over the threads to tidy them up, but want to ensure i recut as the correct thread form rather than one which is nearly right.

Can anyone advise what is the correct thread here ?

I think they are 1/4 BSF.   Unlike yours, these threads were in good condition in the clutch I used, a 1/4 BSF nut ran nicely along the thread.

I think also, I find the 1/4BSF die runs these threads (after cleaning!) with just hand pressure on the die. As it happens these are the same thread, studs, funny nuts on the AMC/Dommie clutch.

And yet by comparison the adjacent (central) clutch adjusting screw is cycle thread - 1/2 x 20 tpi

T'is a funny old world.

Typical of the time, BSF, BSW, BSCy and BA.  I've been told off for chucking a few metric and UNF threads into the pot!
