Breather pipe routing

Forums

Specifically the pipe from the oil tank to atmosphere.   Is it directed down to the front end of the rear chain guard or elsewhere?

I'm getting conflicting information.  I thought the standard arrangement was to the chain guard.

Thanks.

... it goes to the hole on the front of the chainguard from the rearmost of the 2 connectors on the oil tank. But I believe there is some variation. I'll be making an adaptor out of a 3/8 bolt to hold the pipe onto the chainguard as there's noting there at the moment.

for the reply Ian.  I'm preparing an article for "Roadholder" and wanted to be sure of my facts.

... is the adaptor I made from a 3/8" BSCy setscrew about 1.5" long. I turned down about 3/4" to 5/16" OD then bored it with a 1/4" drill. Looks quite nice. I don't know what the original setup was as my bike was missing it.

Very neat Ian and far better than the original rubber grommet pressed into the hole in the chain gaurd that my Navigator had which the pipe simply threaded through!

Parts list suggests Breather pipe grommet 18285 in hole in Rear chainguard top portion 22342 accepts the end of Breather pipe 23430.

I use breather tube stocked by NOC shop and it seems to fit just right into chainguard without a grommet.

In use the breather tube gets full of creamy snot which I clear annually with a stiff cable pushed down the tube. Oh for an airline in the garage.

Nice work Ian.  I did similar, I made a "top hat" shaped fitting that pushes up through a grommet. Then pushed the pipe over the fitting and clamped in place with a clip.
