Motorcycle Live at the NEC

I went to the Motorcycle Live Show at the NEC today. I mistakenly thought that Monday would be quiet rather than a weekend, but no, it was full of people. Motorcycle sales might be down, and dealerships closing, but lots of people (men of a certain age) want to go and look at them.

I don't normally go to these shows, but fancied a day out and to see what Norton might be doing. The Norton answer was not much, and other stands like BSA and Royal Enfield had more to see. Just the Commandos and V4s. However, there were plenty of enthusiastic viewers.

I chatted to one of the Norton stand people and he was from the development department and taking his turn at the show away from Solihull. I mentioned what Robert Henschel had said to Alan Cathcart about three new models in November and he gave a laugh. He said that Henschel had left Norton. But he was very positive about the future and said yes there was substance to new models coming as he was working on one, but the staff knew little more than was publicly announced.

According to the press it seems he's stepped down and is now a non- exec director. Nevijo Mance becomes Executive Director largely in his place.

The second picture must be sad viewing for Norton, lots of people and lots of open floor space, they could have brought along two of their classic models to fill some of that floor space. Hopefully they have some very nice models in the pipeline and get them to the public soon.

I thought the Norton stand compared well with the D.O.T. stand that did have plenty of classic models on it that to me distracted from the current Kawasaki engined products.
