Without trending in all categories, I would just like to share some recent experiences! Applies to carbs and a little about dynamos.
I have been struggling with reliability of my Dommie since I have had her. One issue was the carb flooding for no apparent reasonworth. Float ok. Well, long and short I decided to try an Amal stay up float in her. It sorted the rough running straight out. Only ever thought a float could stick or be damaged and sink. The normal nylon ones all appeared fine, no problems in movement and had rubber tipped float needle. The stay up ones have a metal tab to adjust the float height and are obviously more buoyant!
Worth the money. (Not a lot for a big result)
Secondly: I have struggled to get my bike to charge. New battery, the cut out box was new, (supposedly when I bought the bike) Indian job kitchen table job. Tested the Dynamo and ok. Would charge some times and discharge most of the time and pop fuses.
Bit the bullet and put a Bransdon Boyer Dynamo Regulator on her on Sunday. It charged well with the lights on while out on the run. (One ordered for the Velo)
just thought i would share this as both both have been money well spent! A fix that works!

I solved intermittent char…
I solved intermittent charging problems by removing an Indian-made CVC box and replacing it with one of Al OZ's splendid electronic devices. Naturally, I fitted one to the Velo too! The only other carb problem turned out to be the float needle clip on a 276 carb weakening to the extent that the float was moving up and down the needle causing bizarre problems. Took a fair bit of investigating to fix.

Hello Number one without any stay up floats you can get your carb to stop flooding the problem is the needlevalve body is too high on the carburettor body all you had to do was remove needle valve body and file down where this screws into till the needle valve stops the flow of fuel and use a thin paper washer on the underside of the needle valve body and two to test a dynamo reverse polarity and your dynamo is a motor and should spin up then you know all is ok in the Dynamo the only thing then is to test the ammeter yours annaj
