Could anybody tell me what this cylinder head is off of? It came with a 1951 ES2 engine in bits, but it is missing the threaded holes for the rocker box at the front and back, and the piller with threaded hole inbetween the pushrod tubes. It is also missing the holes drilled from the bottom of the valve spring 'wells' to return oil through the barrel to the crankcase.
Any ideas would be greatfully recieved
Andy

Sorry, thought I'd added a picture. 2nd time lucky!
That looks like the one, what would the rockerbox look like? Would it work on the 1951 ES2 engine? I am selling ot for a friend who sadly passed away recently and we are clearing his shed. It's with an almost complete '51 engine but my concience is stopping me selling it as a complete engine now I've realised its got the wrong head. Would like to be able to be honest when I advertise it.
Regards
Andy

Your head is different from mine, yours has the wider cut away for the pushrod tubes.. My 49 ES2 has the oil feed to the top end and the screw holes front and back of the rockerbox. Your head is inbetween these two without the oil feed like the earlier head, so my guess is it's a 1948 head.
Here's a picture of my 49 head for comparison

Well done Roger, I hadn't…
Well done Roger, I hadn't thought of it being a bodge job as the fins have been cut well. The correct head isn't hard to get for a 51 engine and this "conversion" would mean having to bodge the rockerbox as well. The pushrod tubes are too wide for the early one and you'd have to fill a few holes for the later one, if it fits. No oil drain holes would probably mean having to leave off the top end oil feed unless the bike was run with the valves submerged in oil..?

Is it a cast iron head? It sounds like a pre 1948 Model 18 head (1938-47). A picture would be good.
Here's a picture of my one, they also come with no centre fins.
