Hi there I’ve just bought a 1955 Norton dominator 88 500 Wideline featherbed I’m struggling to find a 20t engine sprocket it’s currently got 18t on. it was setup for a side car gearing. I ordered one from Norvin but it was wrong can anyone help please.

from opposite sides. If you turn one of them over, you may find that the tapers are the same size. Do be sure to check that the taper really is the same size, and that the offset of the sprocket gives correct chain alignment. From memory, the featherbeds have a different offset from iron lug frames. Around 1958 the twins went to alternator, so featherbed dynamo machines were not made for long nor in large numbers, and that means the part will be relatively scarce. Norvil is more likely to have the right part than other suppliers.
Norton singles had a much smaller taper, excepting the International which was a very tiny amount smaller than the Dominator one. It's only a few thousandths, but enough to ensure you can not interchange them. Quite why they didn't simply use the International sprocket dimensions I do not understand. We should summon Bert Hopwood and demand an answer.
