Silencer fixing plate M50

Forums
Hello,

did I write in my introduction that my M50 has not yet been restored or is
relatively untouched? I think it's a fairy tale.
Is this silencer fixing plate the right version or was something else adjusted
there?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Heiko,  that plate looks homemade to allow the use of a non standard silencer perhaps a Dunstall or Goldstar , this was very common practice. The orriginal bracket would have been  a much more solid item , slightly more flimsy ones are available from our suppliers but I would wait till you have the silencer as the replacements often are not correct in the mountings positions and you may want to get your local blacksmith to make a bespoke one .You will be pleased to know that you have an orriginal and now rare pillion footrest complete with correct rubber that I have been looking for!!

Hello Robert,

Thanks for your answer. If I knew what the original mount looks like I would
keep my eyes open. Thanks also for the tip about the footrest.

Which are the preferred Norton parts retailers in the UK?

Greetings Heiko

The orriginal silencer bracket is likely to be the same as used on the dominators , just a dog leg flat strip with 2 holes to fix to the silencer and one larger for footrest , it’s heavy gauge about 1/8” thick . Bends to keep silencer as high as possible and clear of kickstart , often silencer shape not correct and fouls the frame tube etc and requires a dent! To clear or special bracket  to be made .
