A question for the Orriginality guys

How many different tank capacities were fitted to the slimline  twins..  I make it 3.

Hi Robert,

I'd include the singles in this. (Slimline 61-63 ish)

I can still only think of 1, unless you include the manxman of the factory fitted tanks.

I'd be interested, like all things Norton, to know what your other one was?

The std dommy tank (  2 versions with the filler on oposite sides ),plus the Manxman  and a smaller manxman type tank  fitted  further back on the frame leaving the front downtubes  visible ., Looking at a picture of one now.  Does that make 4 !!!   OH , plus the police one. 5 ??

The 1961 Manxman and 1962 Mk 1 Atlas had the 'pea-nut' style of tank. The US adverts state a 2 1/2 gallon capacity but that could be US measures.

The Brits got two versions for their Slimline frames. These being made by two separate companies. The difference can be spotted at the front end of the tank with one type having a more rounded nose. These tanks allegedly differ by 1/4 gallon in capacity. The Norton ads all claim that all have a 3 5/8 gallon capacity.  Adding to this mix is the 77,88 & 99 tanks with a left side filler caps and the 650 and 750 tanks with right side filler caps.

The Mercury bikes had the 650 / 750 style of tank. All being the same 3 5/8 gallon capacity.

I will have to give you my picture of the two  westerner style bikes with  Manxman type tanks ., one is clearly a couple of inches shorter and has a lower profile., its possible that someone has made a replacement of course. I think Anthony has better images of the bikes. Interesting about the 2 different manufacturers front curve , I have seen this but thought it was too much filler.  If the tank in your picture is" correct" then there is a larger version somewhere! .

"Orriginality" originally only had one "r" :-)

Does the Dommiracer count as a slimline twin, by the way ?
