Norton Dominator Resurrection

Forums

Good afternoon

I am a recent new member to the club as I have recently 'inherited' a 1960 Dominator 99 slimline and thought the club a good source on information.
The bike has been in my family since around 1986 and was used a lot in the early days however due to my fathers ill health its last outing was some time in 2008 when it was 'limped' home after hot wiring due to an electrical break down.
Finally I am planning to 'resurrect' the bike cut a long story short I have carried out most checks and have compression etc but no ignition, as I am unaware of the condition of the wiring I thought I would just run power to the coil and see if it will fire...... to no avail coil is getting hot no spark at the point and I'm sure I have wired every thing correctly, new coil arrives tomorrow so that's the next stage.
Can any one confirm a simple positive earth wiring diagram to run power to the coil and distributor only please as I am so convinced I'm right I may be missing some thing.....

Kind regards Neil

If the condenser (inside the 18D2) is short circuit and or the points have been badly fitted then there could be a short circuit at the points, thus the coil will get hot, with no (small) spark at the points. You can't see the points when they are operating as of course the dist cap will be in place, but you can still turn the engine over to see.
Simple test-get a low wattage test lamp or test probe and fit it to the points/distributor wire. (same electrical place as the positive on the coil). Switch ignition on (or hot wire) if points are working then lamp will go on and off) If lamp stays off points/condenser shorted, or coil open circuit. If lamp stays on then points Not operating or open circuit.
