Simplicity...
The only oil filter is the gauze strainer in the oil tank which can be cleaned with solvent...As for gaskets, few and far between. The cylinder head is lapped onto the spigot and most other seals are cork or felt so easy to make. Russell Motors will probably have some seals.
The 1937 engine has the same bottom end as the WD16H so the fairly comprehensive military Maintenance and Instruction manual will be quite useful.

Oil Filter
Hi Trevor..
The external oil filter would not have been standard fitment. Would seem an earlier owner has added one to your M18. I have done a similar addition to the oil system on my pre-war Inter using a small Suzuki replaceable filter. I think you will have to remove the cartridge to find out if it is a disposable filter or one that you can clean and replace.
Best of luck, Nick
