Morning all. Have recently returned to the club having bought my second Norton. The first didn't quite work out and we parted company but that's a story for another day! I am now the proud owner of a 1971 Roadster. It's not the tidiest but appears honest. A friend was selling it. I wasn't looking to buy one (Always fancied one) but the price was right and never one to miss an opportunity I took the plunge. Been tinkering over the festive period and lots questions have copped up so will post them separately. Intention is to get it running and roadworthy and use it for a bit. Then a full restoration. have been told by the better half that i've got to finish the current project (a series 2 Landrover) before starting the next!

Hello Karl - it looks good and should be good to ride and then restore. Might I suggest that you consider fitting indicators (they became standard fitment in '72). Your bike has the necessary switchgear to do it fairly easily and the wiring isn't too difficult. Modern motorists don't seem to understand hand signals!

Good luck ... .

… I'd want to start by tidying that throttle cable run from the twist-grip; under, rather than over, the headlamp bracket?

Also, it looks as if you have the later type instrument pods with the paint taken off — in which case they also appear to take a cover to the underside; not illustrated here (https://andover-norton.co.uk/en/shop-drawing/87/instruments-and-police-horns) but they are the first item, un-numbered, on the accompanying list.
