I am converting my 1971 Roadster to an Interstate andfihave seen that people have been able to use the Roadster side panels with an Interstate tank, this is OK for the oil tank but I am unable to install the battery side panel. If the panel is fixed before the tank I cannot get to the nut fixing the tank rear strap, if the tank is fixed first the side panel will not go into place.
Is there a way to use the Roadster side panel or do I have to get Interstate side panels?

Hi Neil, many thanks for your reply and I may well try this in the future. In the meantime I have got myself some Interstate side panels and will try these first.

I'm looking for some roadster side panels if they're inexpensive. Thanks, pete - ipswich 07958 100 633

Hiya mate - I'd ditch the original bracket that fixes to the dzuz fastener by drilling out the rivets. Fill the holes, fabricate a custom bracket completely of your own design from stainless-steel and hey-presto, the job's a gud un.
I have a standard side panel on my Roadster but I never had any faith in the dzuz fastener. I made a better bracket than the original one myself, fixed it with tiny st/st button head Allen screws and a little triangular load-spreading st/st plate so the screws couldn't pull into the fibre-glass. The dzuz fastener was simply replaced with a 5mm st/st bolt held with small 'penny'& spring washers and a nut and is topped off with a further penny washer, spring and wing nut to secure the panel. Sounds complicated on 'paper' but it works a treat.
I know your problem is more involved but if I wanted an Interstate tank this is what I'd do.
