Electras and Navigators are back!

Well almost.

“Norton…has filed for trademarks to get hold of six new names. This is being regarded as their biggest development since TVS came to Norton Motorcycle’s aid. The latest trademark applications are filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

The names filed in the trademark applications are taken from Norton’s illustrious history, and include ‘Norton Electra’, ‘Norton Fastback’, ‘Norton Navigator’, ‘Norton Nomad’, ‘Norton Ranger’ and ‘Combat’.”

“Norton will need to clear some floor-space. Something that it already looks to have done, as the best selling bikes from the modern-day Norton catalogue, the Commando, and Dominator, have been removed from the model range. Instead we now just have the V4 and V4 SS sports bikes and the Atlas Nomad and Atlas Ranger.

The reason for dropping the Commando and Dominator machines could be two-fold. The first theory is that the new owners are trying to distance themselves from the previous administration, by ditching its most popular model names. The other is that they will be filling that void with their own range of retro roadsters sooner rather than later.”

Can't wait to see what the trademarked belt buckle will look like. Registered as a single item as belt buckle was not in a class elsewhere. Basically they have trademarked nearly everything, just have a look at the additional classes they have. TVS have openly admitted they want to make money by IP licensing in the Indian press. It looks like from now on you can say Norton, dream Norton, but everything else is theirs and they'll want paying for it. From paper and card products to secondhand bike sales and repair shops, even rallies and organised events, they have registered it all.

Look it up, all in the public domain. Search by owner name, Norton Motorcycles on UKIPO

Looks like the Norton world is going to copy that Harley lifestyle that owners can buy into.
