Dominator 88

Forums

Hi I've just joined the club due to buying a 1960 dominator 88 .The previous owner has attached a breather pipe to the left hand rocker cover and teed it into the crankcase breather .My question is Why has he done this is it a normal upgrade or done for another reason

Thanks for any help

To the head 'standard'? Ie. is it fed from the oil return at the oil tank?

If the feed is from the rear of the timing cover,  then you have high pressure feed to the valve gear, which cannot drain away fast enough without other modifications so the top end gets over oiled. Adding an extra drain by way of a breather is a cheap bodge to get around this issue, but doesn't solve the actual problem.

Properly set up, there is no need for a head breather. (been there, done the unnecessary 'upgrade' and gone back to standard)

Just my first thought.

Regards, George.

Thanks George

It's a bodge that's for sure .The rocker cover has been drilled and a brass union bolted in with a pipe running to the crankcase breather I will remove it

Thanks Ian
